Dr. Beth Forhman
Therapy is a collaborative partnership that functions optimally when there is a positive, working alliance and authentic attachment between a client and therapist. Goals must be focused and must reflect the issues that are most compelling for the client. A therapist should be nonjudgmental, empathetic and present. Respect for each client’s journey supports the development of trust and connection, allowing each client to develop a new and empowering narrative that helps them to reshape their lives.
I have been in private practice for 47 years and a senior adjunct professor at Adelphi University for 41 years. I have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, Bowen Family Systems/Couple Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Parent Coordination and treat children, adolescents and adults in individual, family and couple’s therapy.
I maintain a focus upon solutions and the resolution of the concerns that bring a client to therapy. Good therapy should not only be scientific and evidence-based, but should focus upon supporting a client’s innate strengths and resiliency. I truly love my chosen profession and feel grateful to have an opportunity to be a change agent in individuals’ lives.
